Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in Government
The Graduate Certificate in Government is a fully online cohort program, which provides the opportunity to complete the graduate courses necessary to be credentialed for teaching dual credit courses in Texas. To teach college-level academic courses, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requires a master’s degree or doctoral degree with 18 graduate hours in the discipline being taught. Students, who already have a master’s degree in another area, can fulfill this 18-hour requirement in Government by completing the Certificate. Students, who have not yet earned a master’s degree, have the option of earning the Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction-Government Track by completing 12 hours of graduate education coursework in addition to the 18 hours for the Government graduate certificate. The certificate is intended to be completed in one year.
