The Bachelor of Science in Public Health aligns with nationally recognized public health competencies to offer the skills, knowledge and abilities to improve population health and well being. This program is ideal for those interested in community health who will pursue a wide array of health care careers or graduate professional education careers in health disciplines. 

Graduates are prepared with the knowledge to succeed in the in-demand fields of public health, health care, community health, health education, disease prevention, informatics, health promotion and health care management.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health includes 21 core credit hours and offers four concentration/track options: an Accelerated Master of Public Health track, a Health Care Compliance track, and concentrations in Health Informatics and Generalist Public Health. Each concentration/track comprises an additional 15 to 18 credit hours. 

Concentration/track Options:

  • Accelerated Master of Public Health track - Students in this track graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from St. Mary’s University and a Graduate Certificate in Public Health from UT Health Houston School of Public Health. The concentration is comprised of 16 transfer credit hours required to earn the graduate certificate. Qualified students with a minimum GPA of 3.2 can apply to the UT Health certificate program in the second semester of their junior year and can begin the certificate courses as early as the summer between their junior and senior years. 
  • Health Care Compliance track - Students in the Health Care Compliance track graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from St. Mary’s and a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Compliance Law from the St. Mary’s School of Law. Students take 16 credit hours of health care compliance courses within the School of Law. Qualified students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 can enroll in Health Care Compliance Law courses as early as the first semester of their junior year. While students are enrolled as undergraduates, courses taken in the Health Care Compliance Law certificate program will be charged at the undergraduate tuition rate. 
  • Health Informatics concentration - The Health Informatics concentration is comprised of 18 credit hours of undergraduate courses. Students will begin Health Informatics courses in the second semester of their sophomore year.
  • Generalist Public Health concentration - The Generalist Public Health concentration is comprised of 15 credit hours, including 12 credit hours of Public Health and Sociology undergraduate courses and 3 credit hours from either the Master of Public Health or the Health Care Compliance Law track.
